"Nuchi Du Takara" Ninazuma Pottery Full Zip Hoodie LIMITED PREORDER

from $55.00
sold out

Limited quantity preorder sale.

Art by your potter featuring a skeleton throwing on the wheel with a variety of Okinawan/Uchinaachu symbols and designs including hajichi, kasuri, bingata, yanbaru kuina/Okinawa rail, and skull wearing a hanagasa. Artwork also depicts a few of my favorite things: water and mountains - inspired by The Great Wave of Kanagawa with Mt. Sneffels in the background.

Most importantly though, the Okinawan proverb ぬちどぅたから (nuchi du takara), is featured on the front and the back of the hoodie.
In 1879, Meiji Japan forcefully annexed the once independent Ryukyu Islands. Under colonial Japanese rule, Okinawans were forced to assimilate, costing us our indigenous culture, language, land rights, everything.
”Legend dictates that [“nuchi du takara/life is precious”] were uttered by the last king of Okinawa, Sho Tai, upon being banished from the islands after the Japanese annexation of Okinawa in 1879.”

The full zip hoodie is a Bella + Canvas Ultra Soft Zip Hoodie in Dark Grey Heather. The skeleton on the wheel will be printed large on the back. The hanagasa skull will be printed small on left side of the chest. They will be ready around the last week of October.
